Jody's love for everything retro can be found in his very sarcastic old fashioned style that can be compared with many great comics of the past. He counts Groucho Marx and Bea Arthur as two of his favorites, which is probably why he more often then not ends up playing the very frustrated boss, brother, husband, coworker or everyman in the craziest of situations.
His tall frame lends much assistance to very physical performances he gives, and his skill as a mimic helps Jody keep up with Trevor Payer during a round of Accents.
No stranger to the Ottawa theatre community Jody has performed with A Company of Fools, Third wall Theatre, Upper Canada Playhouse, and can be found each weekend on stage at the Velvet Room in the market with Scarlet's Dinner Theatre (Eddie May Mysteries).
As a founding Member of Crystal Basement Jody would like to remind you all to never grow up -- it is highly overrated.
The man loves to play! Trev drives 2 hours each way to come and see the smiles of the Crystal Basement crowd because it's what he loves to do.
Many say that when Trev and Jody are on stage, they somehow call upon the vaudeville comics of old and bring the audience to somewhere they have not been for a long time. A master of impersonations and accents,Trev lives for the challenge of whatever the assembled group of spectators might throw at him next.
As a founding member of Crystal Basement, he has seen every turn, twist, tumble and triumph the crew has under gone over the last decade, and is ready for more.
You really never know what Brett is going to say next, sometimes I think Brett doesn't even know. Witty and quick, Brett's approach complements the team's random and chaotic style perfectly.
With his Muppet-like physicality, Brett can transform himself into any character or creature in a split second. Known in Ottawa circles as the leading producer of flicks, Brett loves the chance to step out from behind the camera to play off a live group of fans.
A regular on and off stage at the Kanata Theatre, Brett lives the very busy life of an actor, director, producer and movie-man extraordinaire.
Check out one of Brett's flicks soon including The Bonesetter 1 & 2, Pirates: Quest for Snake Island, Prey for the Beast, Kingdom of the Vampire and Attack of the Giant Leeches. Brett also performs as a multitude of characters while doing shows with BigTime Murder Productions.
People always say it is very hard to find funny girls. Well, we found Shawna and we are keeping her.
As the crew's soccer mom, big sister, little sister, super girl, scrap booking queen, vampire slayer and many other female archetypes rolled into one, Shawna has the daunting task of keeping us in line. She also has the chore of acting just as crazy as the rest of us because she is!
As the group's music
expert, Shawna keeps a close eye on our Twisted Tunes and makes sure that the artists we are parodying are sufficiently offended. And man, she is a wiz with the Alphabet game.
Think you've seen her before? Maybe you have. She is at home on many local stages including Eddie May/Scarlett’s Dinner Theatre, Orpheus Musical Society and Acto. She rarely has time to sleep. So when you meet her- shake her hand, shake your head and ask “How do you do it ?”.
Thea Nikolic is the newest member of the Crystal Basement Crew and she seems to fit in just fine. At first Thea was our full time Hostess with the mostess but in time she made her way into our sketches and eventually into our Improv Games that made her a bit nervous at first. Thea is an extremely physical performer and you may have seen her around the Ottawa Area with many of the city’s Top companies including Eddie May Mysteries, A Company of Fools, Upper Canada Playhouse, and Odyssey Theatre. Now that Thea has conquered her Improv Phobia, she is one of the teams staple players, and although she may be the Improv Rookie she is no doubt the Twisted Tune Queen. Thea rocks out the song parodies each month, which Thea says are her Favorite thing about our shows.
